The Prep Work Begins

Last week I finalized the itinerary and confirmed 16 restock locations along the trail.  Most of the restock locations that I chose are less than a mile from the PCT with the exception of one.  My first restock stop is the little town of Stehekin, WA, which will be 10 miles from the PCT, but there is a bus that runs to and from, so not too bad!

With the restock locations confirmed I printed shipping labels for each of the 16 places along the PCT that are kind enough to receive and hold packages for PCT hikers.  Most of the resupply boxes will carry seven days of supplies, with only a couple of six or eight day exceptions.  It's tough to fit more than seven days of food in your Bear Canister which is required for most of the trail.

Below...  Our Granddaughters Abby and Penny helping me break down the Mountain House #10 Cans into double serving zip-lock bags.  Lets face it...  one serving of 300 calories for breakfast, and one serving for dinner just won't cut it while hiking a bunch of miles per-day.  Plus... Doing it this way is MUCH less expensive than purchasing a bunch of the individually packaged Mountain House Backpacking Meals, and by packing double serving into baggies and squeezing the air out it take up significantly less room in your pack!

My variety of Mountain House meals include; Breakfast - Biscuits & Gravy, Bacon & Eggs, Egg Skillet, and Blueberry Granola.  My Mountain House Dinners will be - Lasagna, Spaghetti, Beef Stew, Adobo Chicken and Rice, and my favorite Chili Mac...  I guess it's a good thing I'm hiking alone...  LOL  Lunches will be Cliff Bars, Nut Mix, and Beef Jerky for high protein on the go.

Above is an example of the #10 can broken down into double serving bags.

Once we get all the #10 cans broken down into double serving baggies, we will start packing the 16  resupply boxes!
